The Ayre DX-5 A/V Engine serves as the central source component for your system. It plays back virtually all digital formats, both video and audio, and it also provides a connection to provide the full advantages of computer-based audio playback. The Ayre DX-5 Universal Digital Engine represents the pinnacle of our current knowledge with regards to analog, digital and power supply design. The DX-5 will decode all 5.25” silver disc formats- CD, DVD, BD,
SACD and DVD-A. Additionally, we have incorporated an asynchronous USB input for those who would like to take advantage of the superb audio DAC and analog stage inside of this unit.

The heart of any component is the power supply. All circuits, whether digital or analog are nothing more then modulated power supplies. The DX-5 incorporates a series of pure linear power supplies with analog regulators. In order to further enhance the performance of the DX-5, the unit is separated into two distinct electrical systems. The first power supply is for the transport, video, and logic section. The second power supply is for the audio section only. The entire audio section, both analog and digital, of the Ayre DX-5 is galvanically isolated from the video section with high-speed opto-isolators. This is a requirement to achieve both the best picture and sound quality possible.

The DX-5 audio section incorporates our ground breaking EquiLock circuitry first found in the award winning MX-R amplifier. This circuit stabilizes the operating point of each active gain device, enhancing the zero-feedback, fully balanced circuitry for an unprecedented level of clarity and resolution.
